You’re twistin’ my melon, man!
Let’s see who can write the best psychological thriller they said. It’ll be fun they said. Easy-peasy-diaphragm-squeezy. But then some bright spark came up with the idea of making it a Twitter competition… just so they could hijack the logo and call it something ‘really clever’ like Twister. Don’t worry, they said, you still have 280 characters at your disposal. Imagine my surprise when I found out they meant letters and symbols, and not dramatis personae. Two months I slaved away on that that novel, morning, noon, and night. I was 197 fully-fleshed characters in when the penny finally dropped. And for what? I could barely fit the title and dedication into a single tweet. Still, I’m not bitter.

Anyway, some of you, it seems, understood the rules far better than me. The task was to produce an original psychological thriller, in the confines of just one tweet. The competition ran from 12th October to 1st December 2018. The prize? Only a signed copy of John Boyne’s latest book, A Ladder to the Sky. We don’t mess about, here at High Tensile. And neither do you, it would appear. We had some very fine entries; so good, in fact, that the final decision went to the judges’ scorecards. The deserving winner, however, was this little number from Byron F. McBride. You sir, are a sick and twisted individual. But enough flattery, your prize is winging its way to your door as we speak. Congratulations!
